About the Brand

Oy Panda Ab, the parent company that produces and markets Panda Licorice, was established in 1920, but the Panda brand this Finnish company has come to be known for has its roots in 1952. While designing a package for a chocolate bar named Panda Pop, a graphic designer for the company created a wrapper featuring a Panda bear. In 1961, following the success of Panda Pops, the renaming of the factory to the Panda Chocolate Factory was officially approved. Two years later, Panda began exporting its first licorice roll to the United States, and the rest is history.

Panda's experience with licorice dates back to 1927, when it produced its first licorice stick. In 1933, the production of soft licorice began under the supervision of the company's licorice expert, Vaino Hilden, and in 1936, the company's first licorice drops appeared in the shops. Today Oy Panda Ab's most popular brands internationally is Panda Licorice. In 1977, Panda All Natural Licorice was launched in the U.S. markets, and in 1982 it was introduced to Great Britain.
